Reader’s Question:

I just moved here in Henderson, NV and I’m planning to buy a car here but I have a Florida driver’s license. Can I insure my vehicle that I will be registering in NV using my FL license?

Amanda

Henderson, NV

Yes, you should be able to buy and insure a vehicle in Henderson, Nevada with a Florida driver’s license however if you have moved to Nevada and plan on staying as a resident in this state then you will need to get a NV driver’s license.

The NV DMV states that, new Nevada residents must get their driver license within 30 days and if you purchased a car with you to NV you would need to get car registration within 60 days. Failure to register your vehicle will pay the fine of $250-$500.

Insurance must be issued by a Nevada-licensed insurance company for a car registered in state. Out of state car insurance will not be accepted. Minimum liability insurance requirement in Nevada is $15,000/$30,000/$10,000. You must keep a Nevada Evidence of Insurance card in your car all the time and present it to law enforcement upon request.
