Nevada Auto Insurance Quotes

Reader’s Question:

When is the best time to start shopping for Nevada auto insurance quotes?

David

Las Vegas Nevada

Most people know that if you own a vehicle in Nevada, you must shop for car insurancehave affordable automobile insurance rates. The policy is an agreement between you and the insurance company that they will pay you whatever damage is done to your vehicle in the event of an accident. The policy also covers other payments like expenses for damage done to the other party. An auto insurance then is a must for those who want to drive a vehicle.

In order to get a policy, what you need to do is pay a specific amount of cash called the premium. The premium can be paid on a monthly, annual or even one time basis depending on your agreement with the insurance company. Based on the amount of premium that you are paying, the company in return will pay you for legal liabilities or refund expenses if you become involved in an accident. The total amount is also dependent on what is written in your policy.

The thing is, there are people who think that you should only start looking for policies with low automobile insurance rates once you have bought the car. This actually poses a disadvantage to your part. Why? Because on of the things that will determine how much premium you will need to pay is the type of car. If you bought yourself a sports car, then be prepared to pay rather high premiums.

What you should do instead is start looking for insurance the same as you are looking for a new car. If the insurance policy seems high, then you should get another type of car. This will make scouting for insurance easier and more efficient. By doing this while you are still planning to buy a car, it becomes easier to compare different rates.

Don’t be ashamed to look and ask for cheap automobile insurance rates in Nevada even before you buy a car. It is, in fact, the wisest thing to do.

Important Nevada Auto Insurance Requirements

Reader’s Question:

I’m on a tight budget. I want to know what insurance coverage is necessary. What is the basic Nevada auto insurance requirements?

Janet

Las Vegas, NV

You always put yourself at risk when driving a car. Even how you drive safely, you cannot tell when you will meet a reckless driver. When you are experiencing economic pinch, then it’s a more appropriate time to get an auto insurance coverage. This will keep you from digging a deeper hole when you encounter unexpected vehicular accidents.

The first thing you should check when buying an auto insurance coverage is your state’s legislated minimum requirement for a car insurance policy. You can find information regarding this online. For Nevada, its minimum requirement is 15/30/10. The 15/30 numbers refer to required minimum bodily injury liability limits, and the last number in the series, 10, refers to required minimum property damage coverage. This means that your minimum required policy should have coverage of $15,000 per person injured in any one accident and $30,000 for all persons injured in any one accident, and $10,000 for damage of property of others in any one accident.

As mentioned, the minimum coverage required by state are the Bodily Injury Liability and Property Damage Liability. The amount of the coverage varies from one state to another. Some states impose lower coverage amount, while some states’ coverage requirements are steeper. You might wonder why the difference in required coverage amount. It is because when calculating for auto insurance cost, the geography of the place, the traffic density, and other factors are considered.

The Personal Injury Protection is another auto insurance coverage that is required but by 16 states only. .PIP covers the insured person’s lost wages due to the car accident, and also medical expenses incurred by the accident. The states that require this are: Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, and Utah.

Since you’re residing in Nevada, you only need the Bodily Injury Liability and Property Damage Liability. But if your budget allows, you can also get a PIP coverage as experts recommend this as a good coverage to have. These are the minimum basic policy coverage required by law. If you can afford more, you are free to add other insurance coverage into your policy.

SR22 Non Owner Insurance In Nevada

Reader’s Question:

Can you please explain to me what an SR22 non owner insurance in Nevada is?

Kim

Las Vegas NV

If your drivers license has been suspended due to some reason such as DUI or driving uninsured, you will be required by the state to get an SR22 if you want to reinstate your drivers license. Usually this is done by purchasing car insurance policy. If you do not own a vehicle but drive a vehicle from time to time you need to get your license back. Instead of getting an SR22 auto insurance, you will need SR22 non owner insurance if you do not have a car. Such a policy operates differently than usual. Instead of being attached to a car, it’s attached to the driver, and will cover you no matter what you drive. But, if you get into an accident in an insured vehicle, then that automobile’s insurance will kick in first, and then yours.

In Nevada. and SR22 non owner insurance for drivers without vehicle but usually borrow or rent cars, is a little different, as well, in that you can only buy liability insurance, and even that is expensive. It’s harder to save money on because fewer discounts apply, but it’s still possible.

Low Nevada Auto Insurance Rates

Reader’s Question:

I’m having a hard time paying all my bills. I must find a way to lower my car insurance bills as they cost a lot. Can you give me tips on how to lower my premium but won’t compromise my safety? I’m from Reno, Nevada, by the way.

Mark Anthony

Reno, NV

Car insurance premiums can really hurt our pocket, and that’s why we have to choose what’s just right for our budget and capacity to pay. I mean, there is no point in getting a very pricey car insurance policy from one company (and in the end you don’t have enough money for gas or food or whatever), when another insurer can give you like half of that amount but with almost the same protection coverage. Okay, “half” may be an overexaggeration, but I’m just trying to make a point here, if you get my drift.

So what you need to do is have a little window shopping first before signing a contract. Don’t be afraid to get quotes for car insurers in Reno, Nevada. Remember, a deal is not a deal yet unless you sign something. And besides, these car insurance guys would be glad to give you a quote. Ask the agents about everything that’s written on their proposal. Ask which among them gives discounts on deductibles if you have a good driving record. Having less deductibles will also translate to lesser monthly payment on premiums. I repeat, a good driving record can lower your vehicle insurance costs.

Another way of keeping your car insurance premiums lower is by installing anti-theft devices. This will lower your risks of getting your car from going Gone in 60 Seconds. (I mean, stolen). And another one is changing your car to a less glamorous one. Maybe, from an SUV to a pick-up or something like that, because we know that year, make and model are also the main determinants in the computation of your premiums. And my last tip, Mark, is stay away from casinos in Reno. Maybe that will save you thousands of bucks, eh? Enter your zip code on this site and see Nevada auto insurance rates in your area.

Reader’s Question:

How and where do I get an affordable auto insurance for vehicle in Nevada?

Rainier

Las Vegas NV

Getting an affordable insurance for vehicle in Nevada will require some research on your part. You will need to get as many quotes as you can from the insurance companies in the state to get the best deal. There are also ways in which you can save on your insurance for vehicle in Nevada. You can consider buying on the Web since many insurers will be able to save a lot from people who buy online. Insurers need not pay for toll free calls and need not pay commissions to agents when you directly buy from them online. The money they save on their operational costs will be passed on to clients in the form of discounts. Try calling insurance companies through their toll free number and ask for a quote.

Once you have the quote, check it out on their website and compare the prices. You may be surprised on the difference between the two. Another way of saving on insurance for vehicle in Nevada is to keep a clean driving record. Having a clean record means not having filed any claims from the insurer. Insurance companies offer substantial discounts to clients who have not made claims for years. It may even be possible for you to get as much as a 75% bonus for not being in an accident.

DUI and SR-22 Insurance Nevada NV

Reader’s Question:

I need advice for a friend who just got slapped with a suspension for a DUI here in Nevada. She’s still shaken up about the whole deal. I’d like to talk her through this one.

Frieda

Reno, NV

Hi there, Frieda. That is certainly a nice gesture, helping out your friend in Nevada. Well, we all know that driving under the influence is not acceptable behavior. We put not only our own lives at stake but also those of the people on the road at the same time as us. If a motorist is caught and found guilty of impaired driving due to alcohol intake, the courts slap the motorist with a license suspension that could range from 30 days to a year.

Okay, one thing that your friend has to realize is it won’t be easy getting back behind the wheel, if that is what your friend wants. If she is up to it, after her sentence has ended, she can try getting her driver’s license back from the Department of Motor Vehicles. However, that is just the start. Most of the time, the DMV requires a DUI offender to have SR-22. SR-22 is that document issued by the auto insurance company to the DMV that the motorist has liability insurance. Another tricky thing is not all auto insurance companies have SR-22. So, you’d better help your friend by asking around. Asking around, you might notice that auto insurance companies will classify your friend from then on as a risky driver and may give her higher auto insurance rates. Thing is, your friend can get around that conviction but definitely not without a higher price to pay. Now, you know the bare facts, you can try to break it gently to her now.

Car Insurance Application Requirements Nevada NV

December 6, 2008 by author · Leave a Comment

Reader’s Question:

I will be moving to Nevada soon. What are the minimum requirements for car insurance application in the State of Nevada?

Emma

Sunrise Manor, NV

Unlike other states where car insurance laws are stringent, the State of Nevada only requires its motorists to have minimum liability in their car insurance policy. Minimum coverage in this state will pay for medical expense of 15 thousand dollars for a single driver, up to a total 30 thousand in medical cost for all of the passengers in the vehicle involved in the accident. For coverage on property damage, an amount worth 10 thousand dollars is allotted to cover repairs to vehicles.

As liability insurance does not cover the costs incurred for repairs on your own vehicle following an accident, it is strongly recommended that you avail of the collision and comprehensive insurance policy. This will pay for the repairs made on your own vehicle, but only up to its Kelley Blue Book value; if cost of repair is beyond that, then the insurer declares the vehicle totaled and pay the car owner its cash value. Although it is not required for every policyholder to avail of the uninsured motorist policy, it would provide security to Nevada residents. Given that Nevada is not as strict as to obligate all residents to have large car insurance coverages, the uninsured motorist policy assures you that if you ever get involved in a car accident, and the other party has no insurance, then you will not end up paying for medical and repair costs after the accident. This will also save you from spending years in court trying to get the person responsible to pay you back.

SR-22 Auto Insurance Nevada NV

Reader’s Question:

If I get caught while beating a red light and driving without auto insurance in Nevada, do I need to get SR-22?

Ray

Las Vegas, NV

What you got into actually puts you in trouble in three different areas. First of all, running into a red light causes you four demerit points in your license. Second, since you were caught driving without auto insurance, you will be required to pay a certain amount as fine for your offense. Third, since the incident is recorded in your driving record, you may have to face the consequence of having to pay a higher auto insurance policy rate than you normally would.

Because of your violations, it is possible that the court would suspend your driver’s license. If this happens, you would have to file an SR-22 form in order to get your license reinstated. The SR-22 is proof of your financial responsibility for the time being, and it covers the period starting from the date of your license reinstatement. There is no time limit for an SR-22 insurance prerequisite. However, you may have to face another violation if you do not maintain continuously the mandatory minimum coverage for the period required.

In Nevada, it is mandatory for all registered vehicles to carry 15/30/10 minimum liability coverage. You may not have a problem with regards to meeting this coverage since it is expected that all auto insurance companies know this law, and they will also require you to cover this requirement in order to prevent further violation citations. However, if your auto insurance lapses while your vehicle registration is still running, your vehicle registration may be suspended and you may have to pay an amount of $250 to get the registration reinstated.

Traffic Violations and Auto Insurance Premiums Nevada NV

Reader’s Question:

I’m Sylvia, and I’m in Henderson, NV. I know that there is this auto insurance “conspiracy” that exists that monitors my driving record wherever I go, but how fast do these driving infractions get to and affect my auto insurance premium? Do they find out immediately or are you given ample time to react?

Sylvia

Henderson, NV

Sylvia, your conspiracy theory is right, although it’s not as ominous as you made it sound. This is crucial so that people will be mindful of the way they drive even when they’re not in the state of Nevada. You’re supposed to be a nice driver even when you’re not home. This conspiracy helps in keeping us levelheaded on the road.

To answer your question – bad driving record, as opposed to bad news, does not travel so fast. Speeding violations don’t reach auto insurance companies immediately for a few reasons. Well, you have to be convicted of the speeding charge first before it can go to your driving record and your insurance company. If ever you get convicted of the violation, the court will then transmit the conviction to the Department of Motor Vehicle. It will then go to your motor vehicle record. Usually, this whole process takes a month or so. Obviously, you can keep this from reaching the auto insurance company if you contest the ticket and win. There are also ways to have the ticket dismissed. Taking some key driving lessons can do that for you. No convictions, no effect on your auto insurance premium.

Now, once the speeding violation is entered in your motor vehicle record, your auto insurance company can then see it. But they only usually pull out you driving record during renewal time or when you’re applying for auto insurance coverage. The traffic violation record will not affect your premium halfway through your policy term.
